Impact of Technology in Tourism & Hospitality

Tourism involves an overnight stay away from one’s residence. It includes travel and stay outside their usual environment. Tourism is related to pleasures, holidays, travel and going or ariving somewhere.

Technologies are factors that impact on how any business is operated. Therefore for each development of new technologies, a business may affect the way a company carries out its business. Through the ages tourism industry has developed significantly with the change in technology. Earlier travel on land chariots and small boats was used to travel on sea.

As the need for technology grew throughout the years, various inventions took place and increased tourism industry. Communicating technology aid airline to increase access from the promotion of destinations to attract travelers’ attention and to enable instant reservations and payment collections. It allowed tourist to access information such as travel destinations, lodging and dining options at the said destination. The impact of technology in the travel and tourism industry is enormous as more and more travelers can compare and look for all kinds of information available on the internet about potential destinations.According to experts, 85% of travelers do their research on the internet about potential destinations and the average traveler does 55 online searches for bookings, travel guides and visas before a booking.

It is important for the hospitality industry to provide quality service and is one of the major challenges faced by the hospitality industry.The delivery of quality hospitality service involves people, management of people and interactions between staff and guest. The building blocks of quality service in hospitality must have proper and effective management and maintenance. When quality service is being delivered, hospitality businesses gain profit rewards that will improved the quality of the service been provided, increase the guests perception of them, enhance their market and guest satisfaction and word of mouth advertising. Thus, it is important to continue improving quality service delivery systems and train and empower staff, develop procedures to deliver what guest want, evaluate and modify service delivery systems and consider the guest being served.

Technology has change consumer attitudes and expectations towards the guest services.For example High-speed WiFi, is now expected in-room perquisite. Hotels, and other hospitality locations, therefore, must continually be one step ahead and provide the right technologies that will “wow” their guests and some that simply provide an extra level of convenience that their guests will appreciate. Like the facility for the guests to make a call using their in-room desk phone to request extra towels, and order room service.

These travel companies have made a sound reputation with excellence of service and hospitality provided by them.
